Features From iOS 16 That Are Only Available on iPhone XS or Newer

iOS 16 will support the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and newer models. And some features won't be available at all for older models. In fact, Apple has added features that older models either can't handle or don't have the functionality to accommodate.

So if you have an older iPhone or other device with iOs, you won't be able to use these features. The question is whether it's worth buying a new iPhone just for these features, but it's really worth it for some people.

But now let's see what functions are involved:

All-new Dictation experience

Dictating on your device is far more easy, you can now move easily between voice and touch. Type with the keyboard, move the cursor, insert QuickType suggestions, all without stopping Dictation.

Emoji support in Dictation

By using dictation, you will also be able to use emoji and other functions.

Add medications using your iPhone camera

You can quite simply point your camera at pretty much any drug that you save, or you can find out a lot more about it.

Live Text in videos

The Text is completely interactive in paused video frames, so you can use copy and paste and even lookup, and translate. It works in Photos, Quick Look, Safari, and even more.

Hey Siri, what can I do here?

There are new Siri capabilities in iOS and apps when you say “Hey Siri, what can I do here?” You can also talk about a specific app by saying, “Hey Siri, what can I do with Google?”

Call hang up with Siri

You'll now be able to end a call with Siri by saying "Hey Siri hang up" so you don't have to touch your phone while you're working. (People you're on the phone with will hear you say this to Siri)

Expanded offline support for Siri

Finally, we're seeing a lot more features that Siri can use in Offline Mode.

Live Captions + FaceTime Live Captions

Transcriptions are generated automatically in real time for users who are deaf or hard of hearing so they can follow along with conversations video or audio.

You'll also be able to use this in your FaceTime calls, making it much easier to see who's talking or what's happening in groups.

Improved quality in Cinematic mode

On iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, when recording videos in Cinematic mode on, the depth‑of‑field effect is more accurate for profile angles and around the edges of glasses or hairs.
